Kai Nemra paints alluring creatures with secrets to share, using acrylics and markers on canvas. Her creatures' stories are told through the detailed, patiently hand-drawn patterns and vivid colours that make up their mysterious worlds. Kai's paintings could be described as feelings that took the shapes of animals. She explores the resemblance between human and animal emotions, the experience of being a woman in modern society, and finding freedom and one’s self in wilderness and in escape.
Born in Lithuania, Kai Nemra spent her childhood exploring forests, lakes and the Baltic shores before moving to London. Following a Masters in Illustration, Kai helped start up East London fashion brand Nympha where she designed prints that were worn by a number of pop icons including Rita Ora and Iggy Azalea. London’s restless energy has been both a source of inspiration and alienation, of opportunity and loss. Kai Nemra’s paintings seek to look through the concrete curtains and reconnect with the wilderness.
Kai now lives in Brighton where she paints and designs prints for her new fashion brand Wild Me.
