Kai Nemra uses acrylics and markers on canvas to paint alluring creatures with secrets to share. Their stories are told through the detailed, patiently hand-drawn patterns and vivid colours that make up their mysterious worlds. She explores the resemblance between human and animal emotions, being a woman in modern society, and finding freedom and one’s self in wilderness and in escape.
Born in Lithuania, Kai Nemra spent her childhood exploring forests, lakes and the Baltic shores before moving to London. Following a Masters in Illustrations, Kai worked as a print designer for the East London fashion brand ‘NYMPHA’ where her designs were worn by a number of pop icons including Rita Ora and Iggy Azalea. London’s restless energy has been both a source of inspiration and alienation, of opportunity and loss. Kai Nemra’s paintings seek to look through the concrete curtains and reconnect with the wilderness.
